EDUCATION & ACHIEVEMENTS
He graduated from Fukushima Medical College, receiving his MD in 1978 and his Ph.D. in 1985 in Obstetrics and Gynecology (reproductive biology) at Tohoku University. He was a member of the Tohoku University team that succeeded in the first IVF pregnancy and delivery in Japan in 1983. He also succeeded in the first birth following frozen-thawed oocytes by slow-freezing in Japan in 2001. He started fertility preservation activities for cancer patients around 2000. Studying techniques from fertility preserving leaders around the world, a patient of him with acute lymphoblastic leukemia succeeded in pregnancy and childbirth using frozen thawed oocytes in 2012 and 2019.
